Maintaining awareness of things going on around you is crucial to avoiding a violent confrontation. When your at the fuel pump, ATM, restaurant, and even in your home. When I pull up to a gas pump, I look around and take "inventory" of those around me. I take notice if anyone is standing around outside the building just hanging out. I put my back to my truck so I can see anyone approaching. When using an ATM, I find one inside a store and avoid using outside ATM's. When at a restaurant I always find a seat so I can see all exits and see everyone in the restaurant. While at home I try to listen for and watch any for people approaching my home. I then take it a step farther by visualizing a plan on "what to do when." It is easier to follow a plan than to make one up as you go. Be prepared and aware it may save your life.
